The 25th annual Cando Conference was held over three days in October at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB. ITA Board Member Charmaine Larsen and ITA Executive Director Tarra Wright Many Chief joined representatives of the Alberta Ministry of Culture and Tourism to provide a presentation on Indigenous tourism in Alberta.

ITA reported on their new five-year strategy and how it is designed to support and grow authentic Indigenous tourism across Alberta. The presentation also included updates on upcoming events and programs to be developed and delivered by ITA to support Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Alberta Culture and Tourism reported on the importance of tourism to the Alberta economy and provided an overview of their programs designed to assist the business development stages of a tourism business including business planning and developing a product or experience that matches market demand.

The three day conference audience is primarily Indigenous economic development officers and is hosted by Cando (Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers) which is a federally registered, non-profit society that is Indigenous controlled, community based, and membership driven. Cando is directed by a national regionally represented volunteer board of elected EDOs representing every region of Canada. Cando facilitates partnerships with economic development officers, academics, Aboriginal leaders and senior corporate and government representatives.
