The Buffalo Nations Museum and the Banff Iiniskim Powwow Committee present a cross-cultural gathering of Indigenous nations from across North American and the Bow Valley community at the Fenlands Recreation Centre in Banff, Alberta. Immerse yourself in the pageantry of colorful regalia, drumming, singing, dancing, and cultural education. Competitors in regalia can compete for prize monies in categories of golden age, adult, teen, junior, and tiny tot dancers. Between competitions, spectators of all ages and cultures are invited to join and learn the social dances and entertainment on the dance floor. The Powwow is led by a professional Powwow coordinator, arena director, and announcers, who will explain the traditions as they unfold. Shop indigenous handicrafts and art from the indoor market on site from 11 am – 8 pm. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are available from the concession. Not only is a Powwow a sports competition, but this powwow honors and shares knowledge with you about the ceremonial traditions and protocols of a powwow social gathering.
