Indigenous Tourism Alberta postpones Alberta Indigenous Tourism Summit in light of coronavirus pandemic

Annual tourism summit to be rescheduled to bring together Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs from across Alberta.

Tsuut’ina First Nation (Calgary, Alberta) (March 13, 2020) – In light of the current Coronavirus Pandemic and the Alberta Government’s statement on banning large public gatherings, Indigenous Tourism Alberta (ITA) has made the decision to postpone the Alberta Indigenous Tourism Summit 2020, scheduled to happen March 19-20, 2020 at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino.

“The health and well-being of not only our attendees and presenters, but the general public is paramount, and we will do everything we can to ensure their safety,” said Shae Bird, Executive Director of ITA.

At this time ITA plans to host the event later this year, however, will wait on making a decision on a new date. Tickets that have been purchased for the summit will be honoured when the new summit dates are announced.

“ITA remains committed to providing a safe gathering and learning environment. We recognize that this is an evolving story and my commitment is to provide you with up-to-date information as it becomes available with regards to the upcoming Alberta Indigenous Tourism Summit,” says Bird. “As our tourism industry and communities face this crisis, it is imperative that we remain united during this time. Our hearts are with all tourism businesses, communities, and individuals affected by the virus.”
