Manager of Sales, Marketing and Travel Trade

Indigenous Tourism Alberta (ITA) is hiring a manager to focus on sales, marketing and travel trade. 

The manager will be responsible for growing international sales of ITA member tourism experiences by building relationships and raising awareness among international travel-trade buyers. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the manager will work closely with ITA’s entrepreneur members and international buyers to plan and manage strategic business marketing and travel-trade programs to help further ITA’s goals of growing the Indigenous tourism economy in Alberta.

Responsibilities include

  • Building relationships with ITA members to truly understand their business needs, potential and motivations. 
  • Building relationships with national and international travel-trade buyers to highlight and sell ITA member tourism products in international markets.
  • Collaborate and execute programs with travel providers, including receptive tour operators, tour operators, wholesalers, online travel agencies and travel agents, with the goal of growing international visits for ITA members.
  • The creation of marketing agreements, and the execution of sales and marketing plans, in collaboration with buyers and the ITA marketing team. 
  • Itinerary development.
  • Training of buyers to ensure their knowledge of ITA members and products is high.
  • Training of ITA members to ensure their knowledge of the travel-trade sector is high.  
  • Prospect and focus on accounts with the greatest potential to grow tourism revenues.
  • Attend international travel-trade marketplaces, conferences, fairs and events to make contacts, build relationships and increase sales. 
  • Work collaborative on the organization and execution of sales events, missions and marketplaces. 
  • Work closely with tourism-industry partners locally, provincially and nationally.
  • Work closely with travel-trade partners, ITA members and tourism-industry partners to plan and host familiarization trips. 

What you need

  • A degree in business, management, commerce, marketing, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • An understanding of the international travel trade and tourism industry, or experience working in the tourism industry, is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Business-to-business sales experience is considered an asset.
  • Indigenous cultural knowledge and experience with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
  • A passion for growing a thriving Indigenous tourism sector to support entrepreneurs, their families, communities, nation and culture.  
  • Versatility and adaptability, a willingness to learn and teach, and a positive attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience with project management, content and budget management.
  • Self-directed, able to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • A willingness to travel to attend national and international sales events.
