ITA presents at the Canadian Council of Tourism Ministers hosted by Alberta Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ricardo Miranda - October 16, 2018

ITA Executive Director Tarra Wright Many Chief joined the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada to present an update of achievements and strategic plans for Alberta to support the growth and sustainability of authentic Indigenous tourism. ITA outlined their new five-year strategy with an overall goal to grow Alberta’s Indigenous Tourism economy more than $20M by 2024 by inspiring local, national and international visitors to experience Alberta’s indigenous culture and history.

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, and the Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Alberta Minister of Culture and Tourism co-chaired this year’s Canadian Council of Tourism Ministers (CCTM).

At the meeting, the ministers discussed the economic importance of the tourism sector and the jobs that it creates. The ministers also met with national Indigenous leaders who offered perspectives on the unique challenges and economic development opportunities around tourism for Indigenous communities.
